Renowned Nigerian vocalist Davido has committed to donating a total of ₦300 million to support orphanages in Nigeria via his nonprofit organization.
The singer made known his plans through his verified Twitter account on Monday, stating, "Once more, in celebration of my birthday this year, we will be giving contributions to orphanages and a charitable organization dedicated to preventing drug abuse and addiction among youth. " This year amounts to three hundred million naira. Further information will be provided shortly.
Davido established the Davido Adeleke Foundation in 2022 with the assistance of various philanthropic organizations, aiming to support underserved children.
In July 2023, he disclosed that the foundation granted more than N200 million to orphanages in the nation and 13,818 children received benefits from this contribution. He further committed to contribute additional funds in 2024.
In the official statement released at that time, he expressed that he established the DAF in 2022 with a strong determination and enthusiasm to continuously support and establish a suitable structure for the ongoing philanthropic efforts aimed at benefiting the deserving individuals in Nigeria.
Through the organization, Davido and his team have generated millions of Naira and distributed essential resources to numerous orphanages, significantly enhancing the lives of numerous children.
The philanthropic initiative commenced in 2021 after the vocalist's birthday, during which he contributed over ₦200 million upon sharing his bank account information on his Twitter (now X) profile.
Following the collection of a substantial amount, the vocalist declared his intention to allocate the entire sum to orphanages throughout Nigeria,
“I am pleased to declare that all the funds collected amounting to ₦200,000,000 will be granted to orphanages across Nigeria along with the Paroche Foundation,” he explained.
He subsequently distributed the funds alongside an additional ₦50 million.
