Rising Tensions: Russia targets Poland

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova criticized Thursday the establishment of the US-NATO missile defense base in Poland.

"It is 'a glaringly provocative step in a series of profoundly destabilizing actions by the United States and its NATO allies in the strategic sphere," she stated.

Zakharova highlighted that Russia had been closely observing the base in Redzikowo for years to prepare countermeasures.

"Given the nature and level of threats posed by such Western military facilities, the missile defense base in Poland has long been identified as a priority target for potential destruction, if necessary, utilizing a wide array of advanced weapons," she noted.

In response to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsakhkna's proposal that European military forces should be deployed to Ukraine, Zakharova cautioned that stationing NATO troops in Ukraine would mean direct entanglement in a conflict with Russia.

"This would have disastrous repercussions not just for Europe but for the entire globe," she warned. She additionally censured the Baltic nations for their combative language, specifically focusing on Estonia's "extreme and patriotic undertones. "
