Pence criticized the Trump agenda in a CNN interview a day after receiving the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage award at the JFK Library Foundation in Boston for his refusal to participate in Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election results.
While he has consistently condemned Trump's actions that day, his most recent critiques focus on the economy and Trump's expansive foreign policy declarations.
'The president's proposal for widespread tariffs against allies and adversaries alike,' Pence told the network's Kaitlan Collins.
'Ultimately, the administration is promoting policies that are not aimed at nations that have been exploiting our trade relations but are essentially new industrial strategies that will lead to inflation, adversely impact consumers, and ultimately damage the American economy. '
Tariffs have become pivotal to Trump's second-term economic platform, and Trump and his associates have defended them even as the president suspended 'reciprocal' tariffs that caused market declines last month.
Pence also seized the moment to challenge Trump when inquired about the president's remarks last week that 'Perhaps the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, and perhaps the two dolls would cost a few dollars more than they typically would. '
