The warrants are issued by the International Criminal Court in the Hague, the highest judicial body of the UN. It prosecutes individuals for genocide, war crimes against humanity, and aggression.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) dismissed objections from Israel and issued warrants for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Thursday.
The ICC accused Netanyahu and Gallant of "atrocities against humanity and war crimes," such as employing starvation as a military tactic and intentionally targeting civilians. Israeli President Isaac Herzog criticized the action in a declaration on Thursday.
"Viewed as insincere, the egregious choice at the ICC has transformed global justice into a global mockery. "It belittles the sacrifice of all those who fight for justice – from the Allied triumph over the Nazis until the present," Herzog penned.
